Story
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a currently incurable, neurodegenerative disease which took our Dad's life on 20th May 2025, after a short but difficult struggle. My siblings and I currently await the results of genetic testing which will show us whether the CJD that took our Dad is heritable.
On 23rd August Jess, Tom and I will be walking the Letchworth Garden City Greenway in memory of our Dad, and to raise money for the University College London Hospitals - Cure CJD campaign: the team who gave both us and our Dad such diligent and considerate care during the few short weeks he spent at the National Neurological Hospital. The funds from this campaign go towards research into an experimental treatment for CJD, which has had positive results in a small number of patients.
For anyone who knew Mark and would like to join us for the walk on 23rd, we will be setting off from Manor Wood Cark Park at 10.30am (sharp!)

We'll then walk round the Greenway path counterclockwise, aiming to get to Radwell Meadows for a picnic lunch around 1.30pm. It's a nice spot with lots of picnic benches and space to put down blankets. If you wish to meet us here, and just have lunch, or walk the second half, that's great too!
After lunch, we'll walk the rest of the way back round to Willian where we will depart ways. We hope that the walk will be an opportunity to share memories and stories of Mark in lieu of a memorial, and anticipate it to be a jolly occasion, walking through some classic Garden City settings.
In the evening some of us will be meeting at the cricket club (Whitethorn Lane) for a drink, and welcome anyone who wishes to join for that too.
