Story

In memory of Ray Cassidy

We are deeply saddened to share that Ray Cassidy, former Head Coach of Curlew Rowing Club, passed away peacefully on 5th February while on holiday in Spain.

Ray served as Head Coach from the late 1990s through to 2012, a period during which he shaped the club’s modern identity and led numerous crews to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta. His dedication and influence were such that an VIII+ was named in his honour, which went on to race in the quarter finals of Henley Women’s Regatta in 2011.

Following his retirement, Ray was appointed President of Curlew RC - a recognition of his significant contributions to the club and the esteem in which he was held.

Ray’s energy, personality, and unwavering commitment made him a defining figure in Curlew’s history, and his legacy continues to be felt across the club.

We are seeking donations to send flowers on behalf of the club to Ray’s funeral, and to create a commemorative plaque for the Curlew clubhouse in recognition of his extraordinary contribution.
