After running the Flower City Half Marathon in Rochester, New York, I caught the running bug, and am pleased to announce I will be continuing my fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust by running the adidas Manchester Marathon in April 2024.
I am running in memory of a dear friend Lulu, who was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma at the age of 15, just days before her GCSEs. She had 8 months of chemotherapy for 24 hours a day, fortnightly, and had her leg amputated. She was cancer-free!
Unfortunately, her cancer returned, bringing 4 tumours along with it. She made the decision to be on palliative care. Lulu left us on January 1st, 2023 – leaving behind a massive legacy and a hole in everyone's lives.
During her battle with cancer, she ran a charity 5k, raising £21,000; in total raising over £95,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Lulu had an amazing attitude, and truly was a light in everyone's lives;
Despite being told I have relapsed, and now being terminally ill I’ve laughed and loved harder than I ever have in my life the past few months.
Happiness can be found in any situation at any point, and a pinch of kindness will never go amiss; behind closed doors, someone might need you to be their ray of sunshine.
I am going to be running 26.2 miles on April 14th 2024 in Lulu's Legacy, raising money to help other teenagers battling cancer; and hopefully making their lives a bit easier.
