Story
Thank You
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving fundraising page for the London Marathon 2024. I've chosen to partner with the incredible charity, Get Kids Going because their mission resonates deeply with me. As someone who has witnessed firsthand the magic that sports can weave in the lives of children, I'm excited to run the 26.2 miles for this extraordinary cause.
Get Kids Going
Get Kids Going is more than a charity. They give children with different abilities the wonderful opportunity of participating in sports. They provide young people with specially built sports wheelchairs so they can do: athletics, marathons, tennis, skiing, curling, rugby, sailing, boccia, basketball, snowboarding, table tennis, fencing, shooting, archery, powerlifting and many more sports. Get Kids Going! inspires youngsters to compete in sporting events, from the start to a paralympic level, by also giving them sports grants to help with their: training, physiotherapy, sports psychology, travel, competition fees and the design and development of sports equipment.
Why am I running for Get Kinds Going?
My drive to support Get Kids Going is deeply rooted in my personal experiences as a teacher in a south London secondary school. Working at this school, we value the children's health and well-being.
In a world captivated by screens, sports instil the significance of self-care and balanced living, fostering holistic well-being. As screens confine us, sports beckon children outdoors, breathing life into exploration and connection with nature.
As someone who was never the sportiest at school, it's not about being the fastest or strongest, but about the camaraderie, growth, and pure elation of being part of a team. These experiences lay the foundation for lifelong friendships and a sense of belonging. By supporting Get Kids Going, we are providing avenues for more children to experience all this and more. We can support young people to thrive, irrespective of their abilities.
There are hundreds of talented, young people who have the potential to participate in events throughout the UK and all over the World. However, they receive either none or very little funding and are desperate to achieve their life-long sporting dreams. With your help, together we can turn their dreams into reality and help make them into sporting heroes!
