Great South Run 2023 · 15 October 2023 ·

We are a patient-led support group for a rare condition called Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON). Our group is comprised of LHON patients, family members and medical professionals. Our aims To provide support and information to those impacted by LHON; patients, their family, friends and healthcare providers. Provide guidance and representation on issues that affect the LHON community. Promote up-to-date knowledge and understanding of LHON in the welfare, medical and scientific communities. Facilitate research into understanding and seeking ways of preventing and ultimately reversing sight loss in LHON-affected people.

Story

The Carrington West Highways team are running the Great South Run on October 15th 2023 to raise funds for the LHON Society.

The below is from Luke on why we're running for our chosen charity this year...

Back in September 2018 my mother unexpectedly lost her vision after a suspected stroke.

After a stint in hospital and numerous tests it transpired that she actually had Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON). This genetic mutation is a rare disorder that typically leads to visual loss.

The LHON Society has been a great source of support for my mother and other LHON sufferers, as well as their families. They also fund research into understanding and reversing sight loss in LHON affected patients.

We are hoping to raise £1,000 for this incredible charity and any donations would be hugely appreciated! Together, we can make a difference and help those affected by this rare disorder.
