Story
Every week in the UK, at least 12 seemingly fit and healthy young people die from undiagnosed cardiac conditions. For a long time, I felt like I could have been one of them.
In 2021, while attempting to cycle Land’s End to John o’ Groats, I passed out mid-ride and learned I had a hidden heart condition. What followed were years of uncertainty, countless tests and the fear that everything I loved , might have to change .
After two years, I received a rare diagnosis. Thankfully, it wasn’t life-threatening and it was treatable. Three surgeries later, my condition is now under control. I didn’t feel brave – I felt incredibly lucky. I know how easily the outcome could have been different.
That perspective is why I am taking on the biggest challenge of my life: cycling around the world to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Every donation, no matter the size, fuels CRYs lifesaving work and it fuels me too. When the days get tough and miles get long, your support will remind me why I’m out there and who I’m riding for.
Thank you for helping turn this second chance into something meaningful.
I’ll be sharing updates from the road on Instagram at @Cycling_Tom – your support will genuinely help keep me going.
