Story
This year, our school has been embarking on a charity initiative called The Canterbury Tales. Like Chaucer's pilgrims, we believe everyone has a tale to tell: something they feel strongly about, something they want to celebrate or promote. Our story is of the Downe Activity Centre: a uniquely special place, saved by the passion of a determined group.
"Downe is 86 acres of Ancient Woodland and grassland in the London Borough of Bromley, an idyllic haven for anyone seeking an remarkable experience surrounded by beautiful woodlands. At Downe camping isn’t just an activity – it’s an experience, a chance to create memories to last a lifetime. It is a tradition that has been kept alive since 1929, and by generations of devoted volunteers.
The site has something for everyone, with a range of activities will give young people just the challenge they need. Whether you’re planning a Scout or Guide weekend camp, a family camping trip, a DofE expedition, a school trip, one of our organised walks or place to connect with the local community, Downe Activity Centre has everything you need to make your experience unforgettable.
Research proves that nature inspires, rejuvenates and helps people connect. Our woodlands are the perfect place to unwind and immerse yourselves in the great outdoors. Every moment spent here is an opportunity to reconnect with the world around you."
We share this ethos and have chosen to walk together as our final event this year: spending time together in nature whilst raising money for such an important charity. Thank you so much for supporting us.
