Story
Hi, I’m Dave.
I live in Warton Lancashire with my wife, Rochander, and our dog, Bruce.
Earlier this year, at just 39 years old, my life changed completely. After several trips back and forth to the doctors with what was thought to be a kidney infection, I was admitted to hospital on 17th February. The following morning, I received news that no one ever expects to hear. I was told I had a tumour measuring over 12cm, which had spread to my adrenal gland and vena cava vein.
The journey to getting a diagnosis wasn’t straightforward. I spent weeks travelling between different hospitals, undergoing countless scans, tests and appointments. Eventually, the amazing team at The Christie diagnosed me with Ewing-like sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that is more commonly found in children and young adults making my diagnosis at just 39 even more unusual.

Since then, I’ve started an intensive chemotherapy treatment programme. At times, this means spending up to six days at a time in hospital receiving treatment. It’s been one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever faced, both physically and emotionally.
Throughout this journey, The Christie has been incredible. For those who may not know, The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, providing specialist treatment, care and research for cancer patients from across the UK and beyond. Every day, their dedicated teams work tirelessly to deliver world-class care, pioneering treatments and vital support to patients and their families during some of the most challenging times of their lives.
The care, compassion and support I have received from every member of staff has been outstanding. They’ve not only looked after me, but they’ve also supported my wife, family and loved ones through some very difficult times. They go above and beyond every single day to make patients feel safe, comfortable and cared for, no matter what they are going through.
I can’t put into words how grateful I am for everything they have done for me and my family.
That’s why I’ve decided to launch “Donate with Dave” and raise as much money as possible for The Christie. Every penny raised will help them continue providing the exceptional care, treatment and support that means so much to people facing their own cancer journey.
If you’re able to donate, buy a raffle ticket, or simply share my page, I would be incredibly grateful. Your support will help The Christie continue making a difference to the lives of so many people and families, just like mine.
While I still have a long road ahead of me, I'm determined to face this challenge one day at a time. The support I've received from family, friends, The Christie and everyone who donates gives me strength and reminds me that I'm not facing this journey alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting this fantastic cause.
Dave xx
