Choreographed by Danscentre teacher Jillian 'M' Louis, this unique piece transforms a group of Dads into a troupe of Dancing Dads! The effort also serves as a fundraising opportunity, with the proceeds going to a local charity of the participant's choice.

This year, the Dancing Dads decided to donate all the funds raised to the NHS Grampian Maxillofacial Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (FUND NER1071)

This ward holds special significance for one of their troupe members, Prem Reynolds. In May 2024, Prem received the devastating diagnosis of head and neck cancer following a biopsy of a small ulcer on his tongue that wouldn’t heal.

Following diagnosis, Prem underwent a 12-hour surgery that involved removing the tumour, reconstruction, and neck dissection to remove lymph nodes. Unfortunately, it was discovered that the cancer had spread, necessitating 7 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy during the summer.

Prem, who received exemplary treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and continues to do so, wanted to express gratitude to all staff. In particular, he wanted to do something for the Maxillofacial Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. After discussing the idea with the team, they suggested any monies raised could go towards creating a quiet and safe space for diagnosis and treatment plans. As a patient, Prem felt this was a brilliant development for any families facing similar challenges.

Head and neck cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancers in the UK, with a significant increase over the past 20 years. This rise is particularly concerning among younger individuals and non-smokers, suggesting a shift from traditional risk factors like tobacco and alcohol. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for increased awareness and further research.
