I’m raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust since recently I have lost my friend Zane to cancer, and that loss is something I live with every day. Zane was incredibly brave and selfless even while he was facing unimaginable pain and fear, he still cared deeply about the people around him and never stopped thinking of others. Zane was kind in a way that made people feel safe and loved just being around him. His presence alone brought comfort, and he had a way of making people feel seen and cared for without ever forcing it. Even while he was in pain and going through treatment, he still checked in on others, comforted people, and made sure no one felt alone often putting other people’s feelings before his own. His strength was quiet and natural; he never tried to be brave, he just was. Zane faced cancer like a fighter, with courage and resilience, but what stood out most was that he always led with love, compassion, and generosity, right until the end. Watching someone so young go through endless hospital visits, uncertainty, and suffering was heartbreaking, especially knowing there was nothing I could do to take it away. Losing Zane showed me how isolating and overwhelming cancer can be for teenagers who are forced to grow up far too quickly. Teenage Cancer Trust gives young people specialist care, understanding, and safe spaces where they feel seen and supported. I want to help because no teenager should face cancer alone, and fundraising is my way of honouring Zane’s strength, kindness, and the impact he had on everyone who knew him.
