Daisy's fundraiser for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
In 2022, my Dad was cared for by a group of angels, St Luke’s nurses who came to see him at home for over a year and then, when he moved to Turnchapel Hospice. The St Luke’s staff looked after my dad with more care and love than we could ever have hoped. They also looked after his whole family and the hospice staff made our time there manageable and so I’m raising funds for St Luke’s, in memory of my dad, Steven Forster, who was the best runner I knew, cross country champion and always out the front of the pack. He was quick to tell me I run too slow, I’d damage my knees, I didn’t need the stress of the training with everything else I have on - so I’m not sure he’d be proud of my marathon attempts, and he firmly believed you take part in sport to win - and I’m never going to be anywhere but at the end of the marathon pack, but the winning for me is getting to the start line. Running this marathon has been a long and challenging journey - I’ve tried to make the start line before but covid restrictions, birth, death and health issues have stopped me twice. Third time lucky! The training has been months of long, wet, cold lonely runs and they still haven’t turned me into an athlete. So it won’t be fast. It won’t be easy. But I’ll do it! And no matter how hard it is, it’s easier than living with stage 4 cancer and living without my Dad. Thank you for the support.
