Story
Hello everyone!
On Sunday 26th April 2026, I will be attempting to take on the London Marathon, running 26.2 miles to raise funds for Farm Africa.
My grandparents lived in Malawi for nearly ten years, and their love for sub-saharan Africa stayed with them long after they left. My Grandpa, who died in 2024, was especially passionate about Farm Africa and deeply believed in the impact of their work. When I called my Granny to tell her I’d decided to run the marathon for Farm Africa, she gently asked, “Are you sure you want to do it?” The truth is, no, I’m not totally sure. But I am sure that this cause meant a great deal to my Grandpa, and I’m incredibly proud to run in his memory and support something he cared so deeply about.
Today, over half of the world’s extreme poor live in sub-Saharan Africa. The vast majority work in agriculture. Farm Africa reduces poverty in eastern Africa by helping farmers grow more, sell more and sell for more. Working in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Farm Africa is growing agriculture, protecting the environment and developing businesses in rural areas.
Here's how your donation could help:
- £5 could help to buy 10kg of forage seeds, so that farmers can grow food for their livestock.
- £11 could provide training to one woman in high-quality coffee production in Uganda.
- £32 could help to pay for a farmer to hire help to bring in his harvest.
- £76 could help to provide two farmers with the means to start a beekeeping business.
If you’re able to donate, I would be incredibly grateful. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference. Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to seeing some of you throughout the race as I hobble along!
Daisy xx
