We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I really appreciate this.

Raising money for Mind

I am raising money for Mind because they are one of the many charities that provide free mental health support to people in the UK. 1 in 4 of us (at least) will experience a mental health problem at some point in our life and there are never enough services to meet the demand so we are fortunate to have access to organisations like Mind.

The challenge

As a Psychologist and a human being, I know how important being in the great outdoors is for our psychological and physical wellbeing and being on or near water is especially beneficial. So, I thought, why don't I spend two weeks paddling from Liverpool to Goole, across England, via the Liverpool and Leeds Canal and Aire and Calder Navigation and raise money and awareness in the process?

It's only 162 miles and 91 locks to carry my paddleboard around, what can possibly go wrong?! :-)

My Mental Health

The physical preparation required, the connections I will make along the way, the support I will receive from those who love me (my wife, family and wonderful friends), the quality time spent with my Mum and Dad (my Sherpa's for the trip), the contributions to Mind and the achievement of something challenging will all be great for my own mental health. We only know what we can achieve when we push ourselves beyond what is comfortable.
