Brave the Shave for Macmillan Cancer Support!

BRAVE THE SHAVE! · 30 September 2024
For the many unaware, a member of my family was affected by Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) earlier in 2023.
My cousin Tom was diagnosed, and it is rare for his age group, with 1 in 100,000 being diagnosed at age 25. Seeing the damage it caused to him, his partner, their lives and our immediate family was devastating.
Tom received effective treatment and himself and his partner Lou completed 'Scafell Pike at night' hosted by Macmillan Cancer Support in May 2024 raising £1100 for Macmillan themselves!
I am shaving my head to raise money for the amazing Macmillan nurses nationwide, but also for those at Whiston hospital in St Helens where he was treated. They got him through his day to day living and treatment on the ward, and to quote Tom: "the biggest compliment to them being that when they were with me I very rarely thought about how ill I actually was. It’s a real skill to make sitting in a hospital room for cancer at times rather funny."
And for that we as a family are eternally grateful.
Hair loss is a standardised side effect of chemotherapy and braving the shave is a way of commemorating, fundraising and supporting those going through it in a small way.
I am donating 18 inches of my hair (or more if it grows quicker) to the little princess trust who make wigs for children affected by hair loss from treatment as it would be a shame to waste it, and then will be proceeding to BUZZ cut the remainder for Macmillan!
Our Gran, Lilias, does not want this to happen. Let's make it worthwhile and raise some money for both life changing charities: The Little Princess Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support!
All and any do
nations are sincerely appreciated, as it is for a phenomenal cause that truly does change lives. Every little helps! Roll on 30th September 2024! 👸🏼🩷🤟🏻
