Story

This May I’ll be running the Hereford half marathon to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice in memory of my uncle, Mike Freeman.

Those of you that know me, you can pick your jaws up off the floor!

Mike was diagnosed with Glioblastoma IDH wildtype, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in June 2022. After a battle bravely fought he passed away at home, surrounded by family, on 29 December 2023, aged just 59.

After he was diagnosed Mike was referred to the day centre at St Michael’s Hospice. He attended the centre every Wednesday where he was supported by doctors, nurses and therapists. The centre offers workshops, activities, complementary therapy and much more. The first time Mike went to the day centre he didn’t stop talking about it all evening (being waited on with endless food and drink definitely played a part!).

St Michael’s Hospice relies on fundraising to be able to provide in-patient services, day care, and support for patients in a range of settings.

Mike fought to be with us for as long as he possibly could, without an ounce of self-pity or complaint. The least I can do is run 13.1 miles with the same attitude!

Grateful for any donations, no matter how small, and words of encouragement. The hospice deserves every penny.

In honour of you, Mike. One of life’s biggest characters that we miss every passing day 💙
