Story
On the 1st May, I turn 50, and I have decided, that instead of having a big party, I want to raise money for a charity that is close to my family's heart - so I have decided to do Mount Everest Base Camp!
A 14 day base camp trek, covering 130 km, and reaching altitudes of 5,364 meters will be a challenge, but nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by the children who are cared for by The Good Life Orphanage.
Family friends founded this orphanage in Mombasa in 2008, a family-run charity, caring for over 100 children since 2008, providing education at St Bernadette Mary School, and physical therapy at Hattie's House. Every single penny we raise goes directly to the project—your donations never go towards admin, travel or accommodation costs.
Back in 2014, a transition house in the grounds of the orphanage was opened in honour of my late grandparents, Mary & Johnny McKenna & since then, the McKenna family continue to support & donate to this very worthy charity.
The orphanage has been visited by many, including my daughter Shannon who selflessly volunteered at the orphanage in 2016 for 10 days. This mental challenge is not something I could do, so I'm doing this physical challenge instead!
High altitudes, steep terrain, freezing temperatures - it'll all be worth it!
Please donate generously to this cause. Thank you x
