Story
In October, I’ll be running the Bruges Half Marathon to raise money for Everton in the Community and, in particular, to support the incredible work of The People’s Place.
Earlier this year, I lost a close friend and work colleague to suicide.
We worked closely together for more than 8 years, across two different companies, and over that time he became far more than just a colleague. He was a good friend, someone I shared countless laughs and memories with, and someone I was fortunate enough to see get married. His loss has affected me deeply and he is rarely far from my thoughts.
He was also a big Everton fan, which is why raising money for Everton in the Community feels particularly fitting.
The People’s Place provides a dedicated space for people to look after their mental health, offering support to those who may be struggling and helping people before they reach crisis point. Knowing the difference that somewhere like this can potentially make to an individual, their friends and their family makes this a cause that now means a great deal to me.
So, when I line up for the Bruges Half Marathon, I’ll be running for my friend, but also for anyone else who might be struggling in silence.
Every mile will be in his memory.
If the money raised can play even a small part in helping someone get the support they need, then those 13.1 miles will be more than worth it.
Any donation, however small, would mean a huge amount. And if you’re not able to donate, simply sharing the page and helping raise awareness would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support. 💙
