Dan's Sponsored Paddle for SYCLS

Dan Fall is raising money for South Yorkshire Chaplaincy and Listening Service

Sponsored Paddle *UP* the River Don · 5 October 2026

SYCLS is a faith-based charity motivated by Christian ethos & values, that aims to provide confidential pastoral care through chaplaincy & listening services. Our services give people the opportunity to talk about the things that are troubling them. Empowering people through listening.

Story

I'm paddling 6 miles UPSTREAM to raise money for SYCLS: South Yorkshire Chaplaincy & Listening Service. A Charity that supports people through the challenges of life.

Sometimes life gets hard; the constant streams of pressure from life, work, family and just trying to get by. It can feel like you're doing all you can just to keep your head above water. There's been times in my life when I've definitely felt like I'm paddling up river, doing everything I can just to stay in the same place, let alone move forward. And it's at those times I've been immensely grateful for the people around me. Those that have come along side me and met me where I'm at; given me time and given me space to share.

That's where SYCLS comes in. SYCLS offers people a safe, empowering space to talk and be heard, journeying alongside them as they face the challenges of life. We provide confidential pastoral care across South Yorkshire, through our trained Chaplains and Listeners. Supporting school staff, children, hospice workers, Fire and Rescue services, sports clubs, GP surgeries and local businesses.

I'm privileged to play my part in that as a Chaplain. I know from experience how the power of listening can improve our relationships, our mental health and help build confidence in our own decision making. Your donation makes a huge difference and will directly support our work:

£5 could cover the weekly travel costs of a volunteer Listener to support women in a refuge.

£12 could fund the  weekly travel costs of a volunteer Chaplain to a Homeless drop-in.

£35 could pay for Safeguarding in Education training for a Children's Listener.

£180 could fund the training costs of a new volunteer.

£300 could fund 2 months of listening sessions for a vulnerable child.

Any amount you give helps us continue to be there for others, and I'm incredibly grateful for your support and generosity!
