Our #FightingForce Team are taking on the world's greatest half marathon to help find a cure for brain tumours.

Story

I’m doing 6 half marathons in the space of 6 months starting on the 22nd March with the Carlisle half then onto London, Birmingham, Manchester, Great North Run and then finishing back in my home town Carlisle to do the Cumbrian run.

This is in support of one of my best and dearest friends Ally, who is currently undergoing treatment for a rare brain tumour.

Below is a piece from his wife in a bit more detail…

“In 2023, our lives changed forever when my husband suffered a seizure and was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumour”.

“There is currently no cure, only ongoing treatment to slow its progression, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and future surgeries. He has already endured a five-hour brain operation followed by intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and now attends scans every three months at The Christie in Manchester so doctors can closely monitor any changes. Sadly, due to limited funding, treatment options are very basic, and the radiotherapy has caused significant damage to his brain, beginning to affect his speech”.

“Brain tumours receive just 1% of all cancer research funding, despite being one of the most devastating diagnoses. We urgently need greater awareness, better funding, and improved treatments to give people the chance of a longer, healthier and happier life. Our incredible friend Dan has kindly taken on the challenge of raising as much money as possible to support Ali and help drive vital research forward”.
