Story

Im doing the Great North Run again because a few years ago my life was completely different.

After leaving the Coldstream Guards and going into civvie street, I struggled badly at times. I ended up overweight and obese, depressed, dealing with PTSD, pre diabetic, joint pain with gout and inflammation, codeine and drug addiction, drinking far too much and at some times even suicidal. I know what its like to feel completely lost and stuck in a bad place mentally and physically.

Over the years SSAFA has helped me a few times when I needed support, and I’ll always respect them for that.

Now I’m turning things around. Ive lost weight, started training properly, got back into running and I’m trying to become a better and stronger person both mentally and physically.

I wont mention the 4 years Carnivore diet 😂

So this run is very personal to me. Its not just about getting a medal at the finish line. Its proving to myself that no matter how low you get, there’s always a way to get back up and fight your way forward again.

If you're struggling, dont try and carry it all on your own. Asking for help isnt a weakness - its the first step to getting your life back on track.

ohhhhh and to try and beat my Great North Run time of 2 hours 6 minutes from 1995 haha.
