This year I am running the Great North Run for the amazing charity I work for, Action Tutoring.

Pupils from low-income backgrounds have the drive and determination to succeed, but often lack the tools and support they need.

The pandemic and cost of living crisis have made this gap worse — disadvantaged pupils are, on average, 22 months behind their more affluent peers by the end of secondary school. That’s a lost opportunity that can last a lifetime.

As a Programme Coordinator going into schools, I see first-hand the difference our support makes. Every pound you donate helps a young person grow their skills, build their confidence, and believe in their future — opening doors in education, work, and life.
