Story
After having my tumour (and part of my bowel and my prostate) removed, my sidekick Homer (the stoma) and I wanted to do a little challenge together to raise a few quid for the amazing MOVE charity, who continue to support me and many others on their cancer journeys.
So this July I’ll be attempting a 100k Ultramarathon (that’s 62.1 miles in old money) through the (somewhat lumpy) Peak District - I am still receiving treatment to reduce the chance of my tumour returning, subsequently, I’m permanently knackered, which makes training very difficult…
I’ve never crossed the finish line of a marathon and thought “I quite fancy doing another 36 miles on top of that”, so the scale of this event is hugely daunting.
There's increasing evidence that moving more during and after cancer treatment can significantly improve physical & mental wellbeing. MOVE is embarking on a mission to support & inspire people to Move Against Cancer. We deliver an 8 week online programme for 13-30 year olds diagnosed with cancer. Our 5k Your Way initiative linked with parkrun, is a supportive community for anyone affected by cancer to go along to their local group & walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer on the last Saturday of the month. We also have a variety of online resources.
