Story

on Saturday 1st February 2025, my brave and wonderful dad lost his fight and went to sleep for the final time. This makes this walk even more important to me. My dad fought like a true hero and I will never forget how strong he was throughout this whole journey. I’m doing this for you dad; my hero!

In 2021 my dad was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer. We remained hopeful that the treatments would work and in 2022 were told that the mix of chemotherapy and surgery had worked - he just had to adapt to living with only part of his Oesophagus and Stomach. Unfortunately, in late 2023 we were told that the cancer had returned and his life expectancy was 12-24 months. By the time I do this walk, dad may no longer be with us.

The Macmillan team at University Hospitals Southampton were incredible and gave both dad and mum any support they needed. They worked hard to arrange the necessary financial help that was required and nothing was too much trouble for them. They made a dark and difficult time just a little bit easier for all of us.

The money raised from this walk is pivotal in helping provide the services they offer to help those people living with and facing the end of life from cancer. Dad is end of life now, but for so many people, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Please help me ensure that the great work Macmillan do continues.
