Story
Hi hi everyone 👋, I'm super excited and always a little bit nervous after cramping in the first 1km of the 2024 hike in July 🫠, to be taking on the South Downs Way to fundraise for a charity that is close to my heart, You Okay, Doc?
The details:
🥾 40km route across the South Downs Way (SDW)
⛰️ >700m of elevation
⏱️ 12 hours
📆 July 25th 2026.
The Why 🤔?
In 2016, whilst working as a second year doctor I lost the much loved and close family member, Dr Liz Sizer to suicide. She was a consultant anaesthetist, a mother, a supportive family member and she is much missed 🕊️.
Sadly, Liz's death is no exception - healthcare professionals experience significantly higher rates of mental ill health compared to the general population, with one nurse attempting to take their own life every day in the UK and one healthcare professional dying by suicide every week.
You Okay, Doc? provides early, preventative, and peer-led support to ensure healthcare professionals can access help before reaching crisis point.
Any donation, big or small, would mean a huge amount and help support those who spend their lives caring for others.
Thank you so much!
