Story
Hi, I'm Daniel Gent, an ambassador for Mercy In Action, an incredible charity that aims to tackle poverty, injustice and inequality through housing food, education and care. They have an amazing schooling programme, children's homes and Drop-In Centre which all provide a safe place for children that are currently on the streets or have been rescued from homelessness and trafficking.
The Drop-In Centre provides welfare services to children and youth either living on or spending most of their day on the streets. It is a safe space that provides a doorway for our team of social workers to assess, visit and develop a care plan for each child. Visitors to the Drop-In Centre can access education, showers, food, mentoring and life skills.
The current Drop-In Centre location is being rented which measn that these overheads cannot be used on extra resources for the children who need them most. We want to change this by purchasing the site and ensuring that the children can receive more resources and that more children on the streets can be helped.
We want to raise £10,000 as an initial target so that we can begin to look at having a permanent site for the Drop-In Centre. This will allow the more resources to go to the children and the families who need them and create a greater opportunity to help the local community. By purchasing the Drop-In Centre it will have a huge impact that will last years to come due the costs being saved on renting the current location.
To raise this money, I will be cycling the distance to the Philippines (7,100 miles/11,500 km) on a combination of road bike and indoor turbo trainer to raise money for the purchase of the Drop-In Centre in Cebu, Philippines. Although I am in full time work, every day I will attempt to cycle as much as I can until the goal is met and the distance completed which is likely to take many months to complete. I will provide regular updates on social media about my progress and I hope to not only raise the money required, but raise awareness of a charity that strives to help vulnerable children everyday.
Every small donation helps and together we can make a difference.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and support this effort to make a huge impact on communities living in poverty.
