Introduction:

Hello everyone,

I'm Dan, and I am excited to announce my participation in the 2024 Sierra Leone Marathon to support the incredible work of Street Child. This marathon is not just a personal challenge for me; it's an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children in Sierra Leone.

About Street Child:

Street Child is a charity committed to transforming the lives of children in some of the world's toughest places through education. They believe that every child deserves the chance to go to school, learn, and build a better future. Street Child's projects focus on providing access to education, reuniting families, and creating sustainable, positive change.

When Street Child started working in Sierra Leone in 2008, it was the poorest nation in the world. Today, children continue to face significant barriers to learning, with 36% of children never completing primary school and many more leaving school without foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Without intervention, children risk getting stuck in a cycle of illiteracy and poverty.

Why I'm Running:

As a parent to three wonderful children, Harold, Arthur, and Delilah, my commitment to their well-being is unwavering. I would move mountains to ensure their safety and happiness. Recently, I came across a poignant saying that deeply resonated with me: "If you're able to tuck in a healthy, peacefully sleeping child into a warm bed in a safe home, you've won the lottery of life." This simple yet profound truth made me reflect on the privileged lives we often take for granted.

The reality is that life's lottery isn't evenly distributed, and there are countless children born into circumstances we can scarcely imagine. It's a reminder that our responsibility extends beyond our immediate circles. With this newfound perspective, I am compelled to take action.

I have chosen to participate in the Sierra Leone Marathon because I firmly believe in the transformative power of education. Street Child's mission aligns with my values, and I am passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of children who, through no fault of their own, face unimaginable challenges. By supporting me in this endeavour, you are not only endorsing the cause but actively contributing to a brighter and more hopeful future for these children.
