Lancashire Mind Summer Solstice Walking Challenge at Barden Athletics Track · 18 June 2026

HAPPA rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes horses, ponies, and donkeys who’ve suffered neglect or abuse. Based at Shores Hey Farm, we rely on your support to give them a second chance. Every donation helps transform a life. Thank you for standing with us.

Story

On the 18th of June, I will be taking on a Summer Solstice Walk to raise vital funds for HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association). As I walk from sunrise to sunset during the longest day of the year, I’m hoping to bring a little more light into the lives of horses, ponies, and donkeys who have come from the darkest of circumstances.

Why HAPPA?

HAPPA has been a second chance for equines since 1937. They investigate hundreds of cases of cruelty and neglect every year, providing a lifeline to animals that have been abandoned or mistreated. At their home, Shores Hey Farm, these animals receive:

Expert Veterinary Care: Immediate intervention for those arriving in poor condition.

Rehabilitation: Bespoke packages to help them recover physically and mentally.

Forever Homes: A dedicated rehoming scheme to ensure they never suffer again.

The Winter Crisis: Why the need is so urgent

This past year has been one of the toughest in HAPPA’s history. The Winter Crisis isn't just a seasonal issue—it has left the charity at a breaking point.

Abandonment is at an all-time high: More owners are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, leading to a surge in horses being "dumped" or left without food and shelter.

Soaring Costs: Feed and bedding costs have risen by over 34%, and it now costs roughly £2,000 per week just to provide basic care for the horses currently in rehabilitation.

Without our support, HAPPA faces the heartbreaking reality of having to close their doors to new rescues. They are a small charity with a massive heart, but they cannot do it alone.

How your donation helps

Every penny raised from my solstice walk goes directly toward the rescue and care of these beautiful animals. Whether it's a few pounds for a bale of hay or a larger donation for emergency vet fees, your contribution makes a massive difference.

Please join me in giving these horses the second chance they deserve.

Thank you so much for your support!
