2026 British Transplant Games - Leeds Children's Team

Danielle Whitfield is raising money for Leeds Hospitals Charity
“Transplant Games”
We're fundraising to send Leeds Children's Team to the British Transplant Games in Sheffield 2026, an annual sporting event celebrating transplant patients and the donor families.

Story

Teighan was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia at just six weeks ago.

Biliary Atresia is a rare and life threatening liver condition that affects babies, blocking or damaging the bile ducts and causing liver failure.

Teighan underwent a major surgery called the kasai procedure in the hope to restore the bile flow and save her liver.

At the time the procedure was successful but it came with life long medication, careful management, regular checks on her liver and also many many risks. This was management of her condition and now part of our daily life.

Over the years she had many hospital admissions with cholangitis, illnesses and even battled sepsis. She had many procedures and endoscopies procedures for Portal Hypertension.

She always battled through and always had the biggest smile on her face.

2023 Teighan started to become poorly, but this time she was loosing weight, was jaundice and her stomach was swelling and her mobility was becoming an issue, she wasnt her happy self and she was finding daily life hard.

After one of our regular check up and scan, Dr's found nodules on her liver, these offen turn to cancer. Her liver wasn't looking well and was hardering. So she was listed for a transplant.

Everything seem to go from 0 too 100 in a few months and we began to worry at how poorly she was.

After 2 false call, Teighan on the 3rd call recieved her gift of life, February 2024.

We had a rough start to transplant life with many hospital admissions afterwards but Teighan didn't give up.

Since transplant, life has its challenges, lots of medication, monitoring, hospital appointments, hospital admissions, risks and careful management are all part of our everyday life.

Teighan is now thriving. She is so strong, brave and an inspiration.

Teighan's donor is and will forever be her Hero and we honour him at the Games. We will never be able to fully express our gratitude to our donors family for giving Teighan's the most precious gift, at a time there hearts were broken.

This year she will be joining her team again for the 2nd time at The British Transplant Gain Sheffield 2026.

To raise money for Leeds Children's Transplant Team to attend, Teighan will be doing a Sponsored Hike @ Rivington Pike along with some other fundraiser events including a Huge Raffle.

The British Transplant Games are an annual sporting event celebrating transplant patients and donor families

The Games will be held in Sheffield in 2026 and Leeds Children's Transplant Team needs your help to attend this inspirational event.

The team is an inspiring group of 40+ children and young people, aged from 2 - 18, who have been the recipients of organ and bone marrow transplantation who compete at the annual event. After years of illness and overcoming hurdles in life, it is fantastic to see their pride in taking part in competitive sporting events, social sporting events and celebrating their gift of life and their donors.

Could you make a donation to support the team's attendance at the event, helping to fund things like registration fees, accommodation, transport and kit? Also if any businesses would like to be a sponser and have your logo displayed on this year's kit. Please get in touch 🙏

All money raised on this page (and linked individual pages) will go into the Leeds Hospitals Charity Children's Transplant Games Fund 5M97.
