Story
I lost my mum Hayley when I was 2 years old, very suddenly and unexpectedly to myocarditis. She passed away at the flat where we both lived at the age of 23 years old, a week before her 24th birthday.
Growing up the people that knew Hayley found it difficult to talk about her (myself included) so we rarely did, but what I’ve come to learn over the past few years is that it’s healthy to talk and that the sadness felt from those who knew her is only because she was so loved.
Even though I don’t have any memories of my mum, from the stories I’ve heard about her we have alot in common; a daft sense of humour, love of animals, food and love of a good party - I like to think there is a piece of her that lives on in me.
So, here we go London Marathon 2025. I’ve only really started running this year, and while I’m comfortable at 10km there’s still a long way to go with my training. It will be a day dedicated to Hayley, and I’ll be raising a glass to her alongside my best gals once I cross the finish line.
Here is more about the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) I’m running on behalf of:
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.
By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
