What parent doesn’t cry out for silence?

The constant questions, cries, washing machines whirring, kettles boiling, tv tunes ear worming, horns beeping … the list is endless.

And yet, when silence comes, we panic – what’s wrong?

The sound of silence can be deafening.

We are acutely aware of the silence in many church halls and community venues post Covid. Spaces that were once full of laughter, squeals, conversations, clinking mugs of tea and the dulcet tones of the Wheels on the Bus are now silent. Empty.

The number of toddler groups that have not re-opened since the pandemic is shocking. Whether it’s the lack of volunteers, change in leadership, a welcome gap to rethink this area of ministry - again the list is endless.

But the fact is – lots of communities do not have a toddler group within walking distance of families.

Part of the vision of Daniel’s Den is to enable people to recognise the value of parent and toddler groups and to foster mutual cooperation and support for toddler groups. We do this in many ways – through sharing good practice and stories and through leading the London Network of Parent and Toddler Groups.

In order to support this specific work of Daniel’s Den, our CEO is doing a 25-hour Sponsored Silence. It will start on Saturday June 3rd at 6pm and end on Sunday June 4th at 7pm. She will be using this time to pray for the silent venues and for those who feel they have no voice to speak into local authorities and Government about prioritising 0-5’s and their families.
