Story

Hi, I'm Daniel!

I'm thrilled to share that I've been accepted to serve as an engineer aboard the Global Mercy, the newest ship from Mercy Ships. From March 2024 to 2026, I'll be dedicating two years of my life helping the charity bring vital healthcare, medical care, and surgery to those in need in some of the world's poorest countries.

Why Mercy Ships?

I've always been passionate about engineering, after 21 years as an aeronautical engineer I felt it was time to use my skills to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Mercy Ships has been at the forefront of delivering essential healthcare services to over 70 countries, positively affecting the lives of more than 2.5 million people.

The Mission Ahead:

The Global Mercy is currently in Sierra Leone, and once I complete the on-board training program in Texas, I'll be joining the team there. However, embarking on this self-funded journey comes with its challenges. I need to cover costs for flights to and from Texas, onward to Sierra Leone, monthly ship expenses, and insurance. My estimated monthly cost is £1000, so the total cost is approximately £24,000 of which I have saved enough to cover half.

Your Support Matters:

I'm reaching out to ask for your support in making this mission a reality. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps me cover the costs of this 24 month mission. You can donate directly to my "just giving" account, and please feel free to share this message with your network.

Why Surgery Matters:

Globally, five billion people lack access to safe, affordable surgery when they need it. By supporting Mercy Ships, you're helping to bridge this gap and create lasting change. Since 1978, Mercy Ships has not only provided critical services but has also trained over 38,000 local health professionals, leaving a legacy that continues to impact communities.

I want to express my deep gratitude for considering supporting me on this incredible journey. Your generosity will not only help cover my expenses but will directly contribute to the success of Mercy Ships' mission.

Thank you,

Daniel
