Danish Kifarus is a dedicated team of wildlife and offroad enthusiast living in Kenya. Since 1998 we have raised more than 230,000 Euro for wildlife and nature conservation by participating in Rhino Ark's annual event, the Rhino Charge.

We take our name from "Kifaru", which is kiswahili for a rhino.

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Eburu Forest. This provides an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and bongo but also safeguards vital watertable habitat. Read more about Rhino Ark here: https://rhinoark.org/.

Rhino Charge is an annual offroad 4×4 competition, where 65 teams have 10 hours to visit 13 guard posts spread over approximately 100 km² rough terrain. The competition is not about speed, actually we get penalised if we drive faster than 40km/hour; it is about visiting all posts in the shortest distance.

The first Rhino Charge took place in 1989. It normally takes place around June 1. The 36th event will take place on May 31, 2025. Read more about Rhino Charge here: https://rhinocharge.co.ke/.

For the Danish Kifarus it all started with our captain, Eric Goss, buying a model 1969 Toyota Landcruiser for participating in the Rhino Charge. Eric took it to the Danish Ambassador's residence for the Queen's birthday celebration in 1997. That evening the Danish team for the 1998 Rhino Charge was established. We have participated almost every year since, except for 4 years, with changes to the team but always with our "old lady" Landcruiser. We have won the unmodified class in 2005, 2010 and 2018; we were second in 2021.
