Story
Back in Septmeber last year My grandad Paddy Foley was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease & Vascular Dementia , his sudden deterioration was incredibly hard to process.. and left my family feeling helpless as we painfully grieved the patriarch of our family as the disease stole every inch of what made him, him.
I decided to sign up for the Manchester marathon in a way to negate and divert some of those feelings of helplessness and do something positive to hopefully help a little bit in the fight against this terrible disease.. not long after the diagnosis my grandad fell ill and passed away.. this has only greater fuelled my drive to try and raise some money not only for this wonderful charity but also in memory of the patriarch of my family and the most important person in my life, the man that taught me morals and values that have shaped me into the man I am today.
Alongside the marathon I’ve now also decided to sign up to take part in a skydive and climb Mount Snowdon.
Thank you for taking the time to read my “Why”
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.
Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
