Daniel, Ryan, Jess & I will be running the Great North Run 2024- we are stronger together and this year TEAMPhoenix will be again raising funds for the amazing CURE Ushers.

This is a wonderful charity which is very very close to our hearts because of one special little girl, she is truly adored by all four of us and we will run to raise awareness and funds for an incredible cause.

In September 2022 our beautiful Phoenix was diagnosed with Ushers Syndrome. Ushers is a very rare genetic condition with Hearing Loss and a progressive Vision Loss.

Phoenix was diagnosed with a Permanent hearing loss at birth, she takes this in her stride- she works so hard to access everything which others take for granted. Phoenix is a very bright, charming little girl who charms everyone she meets.

Phoenix has specialist equipment which supports her with her hearing and she is developing such confidence- Phoenix has the most fabulous Mum who is such an amazing advocate and will continue to raise awareness, break down barriers and fight for Phoenix to continue to understand her future and face it with no fear.

Recent genetic testing and diagnosis of her Ushers means that she will likely also develop a progressive vision loss which will impact her future significantly in her teenage years.

Phoenix will require support and adaptations to manage her everyday life living with Ushers, and will grow to be her own advocate with the support of her family - this will not stop her achieving her dreams.

At the moment there is no known cure for Ushers.

CURE Ushers is the most incredible charity to support families on their journey - all funds raised go directly to funding research into a cure which we hope is in the not to distant future.

Ushers is a very rare condition- a lot of families have never heard of it and this is the reason there is such limited support to help them understand the difficult and unique challenges they will face and why every single penny really counts.
