Peak District Ultra Challenge 2025 · 28 June 2025 ·

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Hello,

I'm currently on a mission to lose weight and turn my life around. I decided a few months ago to start walking and running as a form of exercise and since then have been mad enough to start entering races!

I decided to join the Great North Run in 2025 but paid for my place via the ballot however will still do some fundraising for that closer to the time. I wanted to do more, then happened to see a Peak District Ultra Challenge in June. Whilst I don't think I could be an ultra runner anytime soon I decided to opt for the 25K version. Still a decent trek by any means.

I decided to take part in this event because I love the Peak District and it will keep me focused in my journey for losing weight and motivate me.

Since joining this event, I have decided to change my entry I was originally going to self-fund it just for myself and a medal. However due to recent events I've now decided that I'm going to race it as a charity event,

I'll be raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK. A cause that has very suddenly become close to my heart. My wife's grandma, was taken ill a few months ago and her health has been on a roller coaster ride since. A few weeks ago she was admitted into hospital and given the diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer.

Jayne's Grandma has been a massive part of our lives, always happy to care for the grandchildren and loves to know what we're getting upto. She's one of the most kindhearted women I know and to see how quickly this Cancer has taken affect of her life and all of our lives around her has been rather devastating.

I never realised how quickly Pancreatic Cancer can take ahold of someone's life and for that reason I feel more needs to be done to help prevent it sooner.

I don't like asking for donations because times are tough for everyone at the moment but whatever people donate I will add extra myself. If I can match it, I will but not if anyone decides to donate silly levels of money!

My workplace also runs a matching scheme for charities so whatever I raise in total they will match, so the more that is raised. The more chance we have of the people at Pancreatic Cancer helping improve peoples lives who really need help when this awful cancer takes hold.

I have bren advised that I need to inform that the trip costs are 33% of your fundraising target. It is my legal obligation to ensure my donors are aware that 33% of your minimum fundraising will be used to cover the trip or event costs. This is also why I'll be putting money in the pot because I don't want people thinking I'm getting them to pay for me to do something fun.

I said I would walk the route but if I smash my fundraising target, I'll see if I can jog the majority of it instead, because I'm a silly bugger like that!

We are Pancreatic Cancer UK.

We go above and beyond for everyone affected by this disease. Right now, half of people with pancreatic cancer die within three months of diagnosis. Families are left with only hope to hold onto. They need more. So, we do more.

We bring more breakthroughs through research, more change through campaigning, and more support through our expert nurses. We make more noise because people have gone unheard. We are relentless because the disease is ruthless. We care more because people feel forgotten.
