Story
Over the last couple of months, running has sort of become my thing.
It’s helped me become fitter, healthier, I’ve lost a bit of weight, and it’s made me more confident and happier, too. It’s become the ultimate pressure valve and my new happy thing.
That is why I am so excited - and a little nervous - to be taking my happy thing and hopefully using it for some good. In March, I’ll be running the Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity - in memory of my Nan, Joy.
I will, quite literally, be running with Joy.
As part of the run-up, I’ll of course be asking for donations, stepping up my training plan (pun intended), but I’ll also be sitting down with some of my nearest and dearest to find out what brings them joy - what brings them happiness, and what makes them relish life.
Nan lived life in a way that would often make you shake your head in the moment, but then in looking back, you’re unable to do anything but smile.
Cancer and Covid took her - but they’ve not taken our memories, the lessons, or the laughter.
From Nan’s diagnosis all the way through, the Royal Marsden looked after Nan (and myself) with the utmost care and professionalism.
Our time with Nan was enriched because of the Royal Marsden, and so this is mine - and Joy’s - chance to thank them.
Anything you’re able to donate is much appreciated - and if you do leave a donation, please think about including a short sentence about what brings you joy!
