Story

On the 2nd of March, our gorgeous sunflower Alex passed away. For those who were lucky enough to have known Alex, would describe her as pure joy, extraordinary, always shining and turning towards the sun. Her attitude to life was extraordinary. Every opportunity, she grabbed it. Every chance for a little trip away, a new corner of the world to explore — if she was on a pause between chemo cycles, she’d just say “Fuck it, I’m going!” .

Alex had the best of friendships and was an amazing pediatric intensive care nurse, a gorgeous daughter to Nick and Barbara, and a loving sister to Charlie. Evie B, Alex and I had the best time living in our little Peckham flat in London, most often going out for beers, and reading our books in the park in the sunshine.

Alex was diagnosed with cancer, specifically sarcoma, in September 2020. Heading straight into treatment, Alex fought hard, going through countless rounds of chemo and radiotherapy, doing what feels like a million and one trips to and from the hospital. Her attitude was truly inspiring to everyone around her.

Alex supported and saw both Evie (Blaiklock) and me run the London marathon for Sarcoma in 2022 and 2023, cheering and sending supportive messages, shouting from the sidelines. I again ran the London marathon for Sarcoma in 2025, after being offered a last-minute spot off the waitlist, 6 weeks before the race.

Together over the last couple of years, we have raised over £8000 for Sarcoma UK, and after Alex's funeral a couple of weeks ago, a further £7.5k was raised in her honour. Of COURSE the lovely lady didn't want anyone to buy her flowers, she wanted everyone, if able, to donate to the charity that meant a lot to her.

Tracy (my wonderful mum) and I would love to continue to grow that figure as we run in the Edinburgh marathon (Mums first!) this coming May. If you're able we would appreciate your donation to Sarcoma UK, that would mean so much to everyone who loved, and always will love Alex Britton.
