Dario's Channel Swim for Aspire

Dario Martinez is raising money for Aspire

Channel Swim · 24 July 2025

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Swimming has been a big part of my life for many years. I enjoy teaching, coaching and being a part of the swimming community of Herne Bay.

This year I want to do something very special.

As part of a team of 6 friends, we are going to attempt to swim the 21 mile distance of the Channel from England to France. This is a huge task. Over 8,000 people have stood on the summit of Everest, but there have only been 1,600 successful Channel Relays.

I am going to endure the cold waters of Britain, the sea sickness, the strength of the tides, no sleep for 24 hours and worst of all - the jellyfish!!!!

I am doing this to help a fantastic charity called Aspire, that I have come to know and respect. Every two hours someone in the UK will be paralysed and there is no cure for a spinal cord injury. Aspire is there to help these people to move from injury to independence. They will be so grateful for any support that you can give me.
