Ride Across Britain 2024 · 7 September 2024 to 15 September 2024 ·

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

This year I am taking part in Ride Across Britain - 980 miles in 9 days.

I am calling this year's fundraiser Ride2Survive in loving memory of Tara and Conan and continued support for Pancreatic Cancer UK to give others affected by this silent killer - hope!

It is a little over 8 years that Tara died of Pancreatic Cancer and Con has just passed his 8th anniversary of his death to Pancreatic Cancer.

I promised Tara 8 years ago that I would raise awareness of a cancer we knew very little about, and how little help there was for those diagnosed, their carers, treatments available and a pathetic life expectancy that's an embarrassment. This disease has the lowest survival of all common cancers with five-year survival less than 7%! And this is NOW in 2024!

By 2030 it is predicted to be the 4th most common cancer killer, overtaking breast cancer.

Positive changes have been made since 2015, but there is a long way to go before we see life-expectancy doubled to 10 years and moving the patient NHS treatment of pancreatic cancer from one of the worst to one of the best.

For those who have supported Jane and I with donations previously - by doing so you have made a difference so hopefully if any of us in the future are unfortunate to be diagnosed with this disease, we might just have a better outcome with full support from charities such as PCUK.

So instead of cycling 100 miles through London and Essex, as I did last year to raise money for PCUK, I've decided to multiply that by 9 and some!

Travelling from Lands End to John O'Groats on a very small saddle!

Every year I take on some kind of challenge and this September I take on probably the hardest (so far) both mentally and physically for me.

Jane and I will talk about Tara and Con and how it still doesn't seem possible that this has happened to both of us and our families and time marches on!

Taken from us way too soon but out of the misery and darkness, Jane’s and my world collided and here we are, happily married, with the support of all four families and friendship groups forever expanding with Tara and Con deeply rooted in our subconscious.
