Alannah's Way: Hiking from London to Stratford-upon-Avon for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity

Darren Parkin is raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity

Alannah's Way · 6 June 2025

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

Myself and my friend Giles Cleeve will set out from the steps of Mansion House in the heart of the City of London at dawn on Friday June 6.

We'll be aiming to walk a 130-mile route back to the town hall of our home town - Stratford-upon-Avon.

The trek will be self-sufficient, and we'll be sleeping wild in bivvy bags at the end of each gruelling day, ready to begin again at first light.

We're doing this for Ward 12 of Birmingham Children's Hospital - one of the three chosen charities of Stratford-upon-Avon's new mayor Dani Hunter.

It's a cause that is dear and close to Dani’s heart, because that’s where her amazing little girl Alannah recently underwent massive open heart surgery.

The bravery of Alannah and the whole Hunter family goes way beyond inspirational. And we'd like to help in the Hunters' wonderful endeavour to give something back
