Story
The Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, is 58km (36 miles) and is widely considered a very difficult and demanding event, frequently described as a brutal, grueling, and intense endurance test due to constant steep, sharp, and technical ascents and descents along the coastal path, according to past participants
My perfect dad, and Jays grandad, Gerry currently has severe Dementia.
He was diagnosed during Covid times , in his early 60s.
From that point and up to now, he has massively deteriorated.
Physically, he looks fine, but mentally, he is now like a 2-3 year old, and its heartbreaking to watch him dying slowly before our eyes.
Both Dementia & Alzheimers have been in my dads family for years now - I always hoped he might get lucky, and it miss him out, but unfortunately that wasn't to be.
My mum does all she can to care for him, and has been absolutely amazing, but despite her efforts, its still not enough, and the likelihood is that dad will need to be put into a care home in the very near future.
We don't know just how long he has, but we want to make the most of whatever time he has left.
Dementia is a cruel illness, and the impact it has on the individual, as well as the loved ones, is just horrible, and really difficult to properly describe, unless you're in it, or have experienced it.
This 58km Jurassic Walk that Jay and i are doing wont cure my Dad, but whatever money we are able to raise, will go directly to the charity, and can help with both treatment for others, and to raise awareness of what Dementia UK do.
Thank you for reading.
