Story
I'm raising a total of £3,000 in support for Convoy4Ukraine. The money raised goes towards buying a vehicle that ultimately is donated. In the autumn other volunteers and I will navigate/drive the vehicles, filled with aid, as part of the convoy from the UK to Ukraine. The journey takes 5 days as we travel across Europe; once the vehicles and aid are handed over in Ukraine, we fly back.
Two of the founders of Convoy4Ukraine live locally, and we chatted to them at the recent Daffodil Festival at their stall. We discovered how the charity works and what's involved. I have followed the Ukraine war closely since it began and wanted to do something to help; we haven't the room to take in a refugee and the convoy is an active thing I can do to make a difference.
The aid required for Ukraine has changed over the 4 years of the war. Currently, they really need medical supplies (especially tourniquets and syringes), metal detectors, filters that convert water to drinking water, generators and educational materials (books for school children in English).
Convoys go twice a year, in spring and autumn. So far the charity has delivered 263 vehicles in 22 convoys. The last convoy from Cambridgeshire handed over seven ambulances, thirteen 4x4s, a truck and several tons of medical and humanitarian aid.
