Story
I’m so pleased to be running the London Marathon 2025 in support of the charity Whizz Kidz! To run my first ever marathon in London, just few miles down the road from where Gemma and I used to live, and where my son Barney was born, will be such a thrill – but also a huge challenge!
I’ve never been much of a runner, but that changed about a year ago after a health scare. Since then, I have had a complete change of lifestyle, eating better, exercising better and making the right changes for my mental health. I’ve eaten more chickpeas and lentils than I care to joke about, but more importantly, I joined a local running club (shout out to Sobo Pub Runners), started doing park runs (slowly), 10Ks, and most recently built up to a half marathon. I've used the gym at Bournemouth University, and dragged myself out of bed on icy mornings, hauled myself through torrential downpours and swallowed a surprising assortment of insects (unintentionally), on my way to loosing seven stone in weight and lowering my blood sugars down the healthy levels!
I’m really lucky that I have had the opportunity to make all these changes. But running the London Marathon in 2025 will be a huge step up for me - requiring a heck of a lot more miles on the road. I’ve never even walked that far in one go, but with all the support I get from my friends and family, and the motivation of raising money for a fantastic charity will help me push through the harder miles!
Please sponsor me and help Whizz Kidz create opportunities for young wheelchair users to get the equipment, skills, and confidence to go further in life. It's unacceptable that young wheelchair users face so many obstacles in their lives. From inaccessible spaces to negative attitudes, it's time to change the status-quo urgently. With your support, we can create a world where every young person can reach their full potential.
