Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I will be attempting to cycle to all 10 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) meetings this year (2026). Some locations are just a days’ cycle; the big one is Hampshire to Knockhill near Edinburgh in August. The challenge is twofold firstly to raise money for Andy’s Man Club, as well as raise awareness of men’s mental health.
After a serious car accident in 2018, I stopped my passion for cycling due to the injuries I suffered but also because of the massive effect to my mental health. I turned 50 last year and decided it was time to do something amazing before it was too late. They say talking is the first step to coping with mental health, but men are all too often silent. “You need to man up” is an out of date saying and men need to talk more and support each other.
I am a self-employed Decorator; the trade is often lonely and difficult with long working hours. I often see posts on Facebook of decorators struggling to get up and go to work, for these reasons I have chosen Andy’s man club as my nominated charity for this challenge. Sometimes being a man can be lonely and we need to raise awareness of this problem and to reach out to all men to talk. I do still struggle to motivate myself and it’s not because I’m lazy, some days I just can’t. So, this is a huge challenge for me, and I am not certain I can physically and mentally achieve it but am willing to try and hope I will have lots support to keep me going.
ANDYSMANCLUB are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free to attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online. We want to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation. #ITSOKAYTOTALK
