We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

I am running the Hackney half marathon to raise money for an incredible charity that has been actively supporting people with suicide prevention since 1997. The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) charity provides loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline for people who can't see a way forward, have lost someone to suicide, or are worried about their friends or loved ones.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, and the suicide rate for young women under 24 has seen the steepest increase since records began. Anyone can feel suicidal, with 1 in 5 people having suicidal thoughts at some point in our lives. Unfortunately, we lose 125 people to suicide every week in the UK.

CALM receive over 28,000 calls to their helpline every month! Their dedicated team works tirelessly around the clock, providing vital support to people experiencing their darkest moments. Each potentially life-saving conversation costs £12.20 to fund - a small price for such a crucial service. I am looking to raise £300 to help people reach out to CALM, who can show them that life is genuinely worth living and to take a stand against living miserably.
