London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

#TeamYMCA are running this year's London Marathon in support of young people - helping them to belong, contribute and thrive in their communities.

Story

I'm running the 2025 London Marathon to raise £2000 for YMCA Fairthorne Group, a community charity in the UK transforming lives across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This organisation holds a special place in my heart, as I spent a transformative year volunteering there in 2003.

YMCA Fairthorne Group impacts over 40,000 children, young people, and families annually through various services, including nurseries, school holiday activities, and housing for vulnerable 16-25 year-olds. As a social enterprise, all income generated goes directly back into funding these vital community projects.

I know the power and impact of their services all too well. Working as a volunteer outdoor activities instructor, camp leader and support worker 22 years ago, opened my eyes to the challenges faced by young people living with social or economic disadvantage, disability, and other barriers.

It was a privilege to see the enjoyment that Fairthorne brought these young people, be it through a kayak session, a camp experience, or a sail on the beautiful River Hamble. As a proud father of two young children, I believe all children, no matter their life circumstances, should experience the fun and joy of outdoor play and recreation.

While I am no longer an outdoor activities instructor, I am a dedicated marathon runner. By supporting my London Marathon run in 2025, you're not just helping me tick off a bucket list item. You're investing in the future of thousands of young people, creating magical childhood memories, and fostering a stronger, more inclusive community in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Join me in making a lasting difference – every contribution, no matter the size, helps build brighter futures through YMCA Fairthorne Group.
