Urgent Vet Fees for Destitute Animal Shelter

Destitute Animal Shelter is raising money for Destitute Animal Shelter
We are a Bolton based charity who are dedicated to caring for the lost, stray and unwanted dogs and cats in Bolton. We have a dedicated staff that are supported by our brilliant volunteers, fund raisers and of course, our lovely supporters, their gifts, donations and legacies. We have a non destruction policy and are committed to reducing the unwanted cat and dog problem in this area by neutering every animal that we rehome. We help, love and rehome hundreds of animals every year and really couldn't do it without your support and any help is always appreciated by by both our staff & all the fur babies in our care.

🚨 Urgent Appeal 🚨

Instead of Wishlist Wednesday, today we come to you with a heartfelt plea.

We are absolutely drowning in vet bills and struggling to keep our heads above water 💔

As many of you know, our numbers have skyrocketed this year. We’ve done everything we can to help as many dogs and cats as possible, but in recent weeks we’ve seen more very sick animals than ever before:

🐾 Tiny 2–3 week old kittens abandoned, weak, covered in fleas, fighting infections – heartbreakingly, many didn’t survive.

🐾 A pocket bully who can barely walk around the block without struggling to breathe, now awaiting urgent BOAS surgery.

🐾 A mum cat abandoned while heavily pregnant. She gave birth to 3 kittens – 2 died within days, she herself passed away 2 weeks later, and the last kitten lost her fight this weekend despite staff bottle-feeding her around the clock.

🐾 A dog surrendered with severe skin, ear and eye infections after years of breeding.

🐾 An adult cat who was so anaemic from rotten teeth he was touch-and-go after 4 days at the vets – and he still needs at least one dental surgery.

🐾 Three young kittens who seemed healthy but rapidly declined this weekend with FIP. Two now have jaundice and fluid around their hearts. Treatment costs £557 per bottle, per cat, lasting up to 12 weeks which means we may require more bottles – and we currently have 4 cats needing it. There are no guarantees, but we have to try.

We are only a small team. This past month has been filled with vet trips, sleepless nights, bottle feeds every two hours, animals taken home to be monitored, and heart-breaking losses. This isn’t a 9-5 job – it is 24/7. And right now, we are deflated, exhausted, and broken. 💔

This is rescue. The highs are incredible. But the lows… they break you.

👉 Please, if you take anything from this: spay and neuter your pets. It prevents so much suffering.
