Story

Hi All, an early start at 5 to prep. Finally set off into the grey, damp mist at 6.40 from Scarborough Station feeling a little tense without my co rider but thankful for Andy, giving up his time, to support the ride in his car carrying all the emergency gear.

The run to Malton was excellent, mist lifted after a while, no rain and more importantly no wind. Flat as a pancake all the way to a well earned break in Costa.

Heading out of Malton to York we had a couple of climbs. Andy was fine in the car but the first one took it out of my legs a bit although the downhill on the other side clocked 46 mph on the speedo 😂

On the approach to York the heavens opened and what a downpour. Absolutely drenched, continuing via the ring road to Macdonalds at the A59 junction. A big brunch to get the wheels going again after a change of cloths but the boots were soaked, so it was going to be a squelchy run in for the next 30 miles or so but the rain had stopped.

York to Knaresborough along the A59 was heavy going mainly due to the dire state of the road surface but hey ho, 3/4 of the ride nearly done.

Another Macdonalds at St. James retail park for a quick brew and of we went for the last leg. My legs were gone, down to the small chain ring for a horrible slight incline all the way to the drop before the A61 roundabout and the last 8 miles into Otley.

Absolutely knackered by now, set off too fast to Malton leaving little in the tank for the last bit. Arrived at the Falcon, Otley 2.15 to a lovely welcome and the job was done. At the time of writing we are over £1100 and still hoping for more to come.

Thanks to Andy for the much needed support vehicle. Thanks to Ali at the Falcon for her support in collecting donations & thanks to everyone who has supported this years fundraiser 👍

The 3rd year has arrived for another fundraiser on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support. Thankfully I’m 2 years since treatment and all the test results continue to move in the right direction. Macmillans’ support continues to be invaluable to me, and I’m sure many others fighting against cancer.

We return to the scene of the 1st fundraiser in the opposite direction. 2022 when we spent the day cycling in persistent rain and an enforced overnight stop in Malton.

Last years challenge to Liverpool was a tough day, especially over the Pendle hillside before getting to a flat stage south of Preston all the way into Liverpool. Again at the end of the challenge we were battling through torrential rain so here’s hoping for a dry run from Scarborough to Otley. Planned stops in Malton, York & Knaresborough. 78 miles in total.

Don't forget guys, the PSA check for prostate cancer takes 2 minutes, with anyone over 50 eligible for a regular check with your GP.

Thanks for all your support, hopefully we can beat the target for the 3rd year running 👏
