Story
I have found that living with a progressive disability is a bit like coping with a major issue in slow motion. First comes feelings of denial, then shock, followed closely by anguish and frustration.
Over time, through the incredible work and support of charities like Muscular Dystrophy UK & Ireland, you begin to understand and discover a new phase — positive acceptance and hope. You learn to embrace the machines that make life easier, cooler, and even faster. You become enabled by tech, liberated by support, and honestly… let’s not forget the unexpected perks — like the best seat in the theatre, tucked in behind The President at the Aviva, right next to the stage at a Future Islands gig, or getting to Craven Cottage and realising your view of the game is better than Marco Silva’s. It's respect from the public, gaining access with dignity, and a sense of community spirit that pushes you on.
To try and give back just a little, I’ll be (somehow) hauling myself through the London Royal Parks Half Marathon on 12 October 2025, with the help of 4 brave friends & family support runners. We might not break a record, but if you were to consider supporting this amazing cause, it would mean the world — and if you’re around on the day, come on down (and join us for some “essential rehydration” in a suitable location afterwards).
