Story
On the 9th of June I will be flying to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kilimanjaro is approximately 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) tall. It's the highest peak in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world, making this the hardest thing I’ve ever done but by no means close to what Kai has endured.
I have decided to take this challenge on to raise money for Rainbows who have supported Kai over the past 2 and a half years through thick and thin.

Kai's journey is truly inspiring. Despite facing a tough diagnosis, he has shown incredible resilience and positivity. His passion for football, especially his support for Manchester United, highlights his dedication and love for the sport.
Kai's battle with Ependymoma brain and spinal tumours began in November 2022, following a period of headaches that escalated into migraines. Despite the challenges, he has remained optimistic, undergoing various treatments including intravenous chemotherapy, radiotherapy, oral chemotherapy, oxygen therapy, and physiotherapy.
In June 2023, the tumours in his spine affected his ability to walk, confining him to a wheelchair. However, this hasn't stopped him from enjoying life with his family and friends. Even on his darkest days, Kai's determination and hope have pulled him through, making him a true inspiration and our hero.
Vanessa Graham, Rainbows Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Palliative Care, said: “It is about helping the families to find a way through the stress and emotions of caring for their child. I value the ethos of Rainbows, and this role is all about very important choices for the families, ones they may not have known existed – whether that is hospice, hospital or home.
“I love the uniqueness of this role and recognise the gap in ensuring families know about Rainbows. I will provide holistic support for emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the whole family and I look forward to working within the community.”
